ATHENS, Greece (AP)—Defending champion Olympiakos beat host Aris 3-2 to top the Greek league on Saturday.
Panathinaikos, which hosts AEK on Sunday, and Atromitos, which does not play this weekend, were a point behind.
In the day’s other game, newcomer OFI defeated host Panionios 3-1.
In Thessaloniki, Olympiakos took the lead in the seventh minute when a corner kick by Jose Holebas flew over Aris’ defense for Rafik Djebbour to score his sixth goal of the season, second in the league to Panathinaikos’ Sebastian Leto, who has eight.
The visitors made it 2-0 in the 28th, when Francois Modesto headed in off a free kick by Ariel Ibagaza.
Aris came out more aggressively after halftime and Ricky Faty’s header off a corner kick by Nery Castillo sailed just wide in the 50th.
After more than an hour, Jean Makoun’s deep ball found Vicente Monje, who lobbed Aris goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic but hit the crossbar. The rebound was shot by Vicente Monje high over the goal.
Aris’ efforts finally paid off in the 77th. Javier Umbides’ corner found Khalifa Sankare who passed on to Carlos Toja to score.
In the 83rd, Makoun made it 3-1 with a header off a free kick by Holebas, and three minutes later Faty headed in the game’s final goal off a cross by defender Michel.
